Ajari Mochi, perfect souvenir in Kyoto

If you visit Kyoto, "Ajari Mochi" is something you should buy.

There are so many variety of souvenirs in Kyoto, so it may be difficult to choose what to buy for your families and friends. "Yatsuhashi" is one of the most common souvenirs. They are tasty and good, but if you want to try something different, Ajari Mochi can be your choice.
Ajari-mochi is a traditional Japanese confection. There is red bean dough inside baked thin rice cake. It kind of looks like dumplings. It's a little bit chewy, which gives it unique "Mochi" texture. Japanese people love the harmony of sweetness of red beans and the texture of this Mochi.

You can get Ajari-mochi in the shop called "Mangetsu", one of the most famous confectionary shops in Kyoto. The shops are located in most of the major department stores in Kyoto such as Takashimaya, Isetan, Daimaru, and Kiyosk shops in the Kyoto Station.

Because it is fresh, it can only last about 5 days. When you purchase, don't forget to check the expiration date. If you travel for a long time, you can just buy one piece and try it for your dessert for the day.

Don't only go for Yatsuhashi. I hope you will have a chance to try Ajari-mochi at least once.
